2019 has been the year of the star in NBA. League superstars have taken over and produced some of the most insane stat lines and stretches of play in NBA history. With so many stars producing at a high level this season, I thought it would be interesting to attempt to rank every NBA player using advanced metrics and stats. Because of the vastly different playstyles and ways to affect the game, it’s impossible to come up with a system that takes every factor into account. I compiled some of what I think are the best metrics/indicators of NBA success, and used them to rank every NBA player.
Each player has four scores: Offensive Score, Defensive Score, Value Score, and Total Score. Offensive and Defensive Score use metrics such as win shares and box plus/minus to assess the effect each player has on each side of the ball. The Value Score uses all-encompassing player evaluation metrics such as PER and VORP to determine how valuable each player is to their team. These three scores are then combined to reach a Total Score.
Here are the results of this week’s NBA Player Rankings:
|Player||Total Score||Off. Score||Def. Score||Value Score||Change|
